Bhubaneswar: An elderly man was trampled to death by a herd of elephants in a forest near Majuriapada in Sambalpur district on Sunday night.
Shyamsundar Pradhan (55), a resident of Chilikama village, encountered a six-member elephant herd near Majuriapada while returning home on his cycle from Nuamunda village.
When Pradhan failed to return home, his family launched a search and found his body near Majuriapada with the help of locals. Forest officials and police investigated the incident after retrieving the body for a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, forest officials are keeping a watch on the movement of the elephants.
