Bhubaneswar: The body of a patient was found hanging from a ceiling fan in the orthopedic ward of Bhubaneswar AIIMS Hospital on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as 70-year-old Dilip Kumar Sahu of Atalpur village in Jajpur district.
Sahu was admitted to the Bhubaneswar AIIMS for treatment on December 5. It is suspected that the patient was frustrated over his illness and ended his life to get respite from it. The police have seized the body and are investigating into the matter.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s daughter raised questions about patient management at AIIMS Bhubaneswar and alleged that the negligence of the nursing staff was responsible for her father’s death.
“My father lost his life due to the negligence of the nursing staff. The suicide could have been prevented if the hospital staff had been vigilant at night,” she alleged.
Police and a scientific team are investigating into the incident.
