Bhubaneswar: An elderly woman was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside her residence at Ghata Paika Sahi in Kabisuryanagar town of Ganjam district on Wednesday. Her family members alleged that she was murdered after miscreants looted her gold jewellery.
The deceased has been identified as Pratima Jena.
According to reports, family members claimed that unidentified miscreants entered the house, killed Pratima, and fled with her gold ornaments. The exact circumstances leading to her death are yet to be ascertained.
On being informed, Kabisuryanagar police reached the spot and recovered the body from inside the residence. A probe has been launched to determine whether the woman was killed during a robbery or if there was any other motive behind the incident.
A scientific team was also pressed into service to collect forensic evidence from the crime scene.
The body has been sent for postmortem examination, and further investigation is underway.
