Bhubaneswar: An elderly woman was brutally killed in Khadagiri Bari Basti under Bharatpur police limits in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday night, while her daughter-in-law was found in an unconscious state. The deceased was found with her throat slit. The woman’s daughter-in-law Vaishakhi has been admitted to a nearby government health facility.
The deceased has been identified as Mandapali, who hailed from Belgun in Odisha’s Ganjam district. It is learned that the woman lived with her younger son and daughter-in-law in the Bari Basti area of Khandagiri on the outskirts of the capital city. Preliminary investigation suggests that the crime was a fall-out of an old enmity.
On being informed, personnel from Bharatpur police station and a scientific team reached the spot and launched an investigation. Bhubaneswar DCP Prateek Singh also visited the spot. Singh told the media, “On being informed, a team from Bharatpur police station reached the spot and found the woman dead. We have launched an investigation.”
