Bhubaneswar: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced by-elections for six Rajya Sabha seats, including one from Odisha.
As per reports, these vacancies were created after members from Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, and Haryana resigned. The Odisha seat became vacant when BJD leader Sujeet Kumar resigned in September and later joined the BJP. Kumar’s term was originally set to end on April 2, 2026.
Going by the ECI notification, nominations for the by-polls will be submitted until December 10. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on December 11 while the last date for withdrawal of candidatures will be held on December 13. Polling will be held on December 20, from 9 AM to 4 PM and counting of votes will commence on December 20 at 5 PM.
