Bhubaneswar: Concerned over the electrocution death of three elephants including a calf at the Buramal forest area under the Naktideul forest range in Sambalpur district today, the Forest Department has announced that it will take action against the forester and guards responsible for the death of pachyderms.
Besides, the department held the energy department responsible for their negligence in preventing the illegal electric traps. The department will initiate a thorough investigation tomorrow to identify those responsible, said sources.
As per reports, three elephants reportedly died from electrocution after coming into contact with electric wires laid by poachers to trap wild boars in the Buramal Forest area.
Local villagers spotted the three carcasses in the Burmal forest Monday morning and informed the Forest department. Soon, Forest department personnel reached the spot and seized the carcasses of the jumbos.
