Bhubaneswar: A parastaff of the Forest Department was critically injured in an elephant attack while trying to drive away a tusker that was wreaking havoc at Chadeimara panchayat under Reamal block in Deogarh district.
The injured forest staff has been identified as Narayan Sahu.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night when the tusker, which has been terrorizing the villagers for the past few days, entered the village and started damaging crops and houses. Sahu, who was part of the forest team trying to drive away the elephant, was attacked by the tusker and suffered serious injuries on his leg and hand.
He was immediately rushed to the Chhendipada Hospital. Later, he was shifted to Angul District Headquarters Hospital.
The villagers, who had been living in fear of the tusker, demanded immediate action from the government to drive away the elephant and provide compensation to the families affected by the elephant’s rampage.
It is pertinent to mention that this is not the first incident of elephant attack in the area. On Tuesday, a woman was killed by the same tusker in Chadeimara panchayat.
