Dhenkanal: An elephant calf was found dead in a forest in Rasol Section of Hindol Range in Dhenkanal Division on Tuesday, officials said.
The carcass of the male calf, aged around four years, was spotted in the forest.
Initial evidence and carcass showed signs of electrocution from 11kv line.
Officials suspected that the animal died after coming in contact with the live wire laid by poachers.
The autopsy of the calf was conducted in the presence of DFO, ACF and Deputy Range Officer, Hindol and a team of two Joint task force members, BVO, Hindol along with VAS.
The exact cause of its death can be ascertained after getting the report.
On the basis of intelligence input, two persons have been arrested from Mundiapasi village, officials said.
Further investigation is underway.
In a separate incident, an elephant was killed after iron-ore laden truck hit the animal on NH 49 near Kantabahala under Telkoi range in Keonjhar.
The forest department arrested the driver of the vehicle and seized the truck.
