Elephant Flings Elderly Woman On Ground In Cuttack

Bhubaneswar: An elderly woman was killed after an elephant lifted her with its trunk and flung on the ground leading to her death. The incident took place at Kandamuguri village under Gurudijhatia police limits in Cuttack district on Tuesday night.

The victim, identified as Gamia was returning from Radhadamodarpur after watching opera play. She faced an elephant at a farm house near Matsyapur in the same locality. The jumbo ran amok and captured the elderly woman before crushing her on the ground to death. The woman died on the spot.

People found her mutilated body in the morning and informed the police and forest officials.

Officials from Khuntuni forest range rushed to the scene and launched an inquiry. Police also seized the body for post-mortem.

The forest department, meanwhile, intensified night patrolling in the locality.
