G.Udayagiri (Kandhamal): A herd of 28 elephants damaged houses and destroyed crops in Kurumingia Kataguda village under G.Udayagiri block of Kandhamal district on Friday.
The elephants, which passed through several villages, consumed bananas, turmeric, and fruit orchards, and ate stored paddy, causing widespread destruction.
The affected families, who lack legal land titles, received no compensation for last year’s losses. They claim the government’s failure to address their plight has left them struggling to survive.
