Rourkela: An elephant calf was killed after being hit by a goods train in Odisha’s Rourkela on Monday evening.
According to reports, the goods train passing on the Howrah-Mumbai line hit a herd of elephants near Bondamunda in Rourkela causing the death of one elephant calf on the spot.
Meanwhile, local residents are in a state of panic a few elephants strayed from the group and ventured into the residential areas after the mishap.
On being informed, the Railway Police Force (RPF) personnel along with the local railway staff visited the accident spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
Trains passing through that line have been directed to run at a slower speed following information regarding the presence of the elephants in the area.
