Bhubaneswar: Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who is also the minister of Agriculture & Farmers’ Empowerment and Energy, graced the grand function held at Lokseva Bhawan, Bhubaneswar, on the occasion of National Energy Conservation Day 2025.
The event highlighted the importance of energy conservation and celebrated outstanding contributions to energy efficiency.
The celebration began with the Deputy Chief Minister flagging off an Energy Conservation awareness rally, joined by Principal Secretary Energy, Vishal Kumar Dev, and EIC(Electy.)-Cum-PCEI Odisha, Manoj Kumar Tripathy. The rally, comprising students, teachers, and Energy Department officials, started from Gate No.3 of Kalinga Stadium and ended at Lok Seva Bhawan.
In his address, Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo emphasised the need to adopt energy conservation as a national duty, stressing the importance of earthing in every house and implementing smart meters to reduce energy losses. He reaffirmed the Government of Odisha’s commitment to promoting energy efficiency and environmental stewardship, aligning with national missions on climate resilience and sustainable development.
Other dignitaries present included Dr. K. Murugesan, Director, Centre for Environmental Studies, Forest, Environment & Climate Change Department, who urged teachers to promote innovative thinking and ideas among students regarding energy conservation. A. K. Tripathy, Former Director General, CPRI, emphasised adding renewable energy capacity along with grid stabilisation.
The Deputy Chief Minister honoured the winners of the Odisha State Energy Conservation Awards (OSECA) in various categories, including CPP/IPP, Steel & Power, MSMEs, and Educational Institutes. A State-Level Quiz Competition was also organised, with over 2.5 lakh students participating across Odisha.
The event concluded with Ashok Kumar Das, Chief Engineer, giving the vote of thanks to all dignitaries and participants.
