Ensure Adequate Medicines, RRTs In Flood Areas, Health Minister Directs Officials

Bhubaneswar: Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling today chaired a high-level review meeting with senior department officials and CDM&PHOs of flood-affected districts to assess the preparedness of the health department.

In the meeting, the Minister directed officials to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services in flood-affected areas and to maintain adequate stock of essential medicines and medical supplies. He instructed that healthcare be delivered through Rapid Response Teams (RRTs) and Mobile Health Units in flood-hit and remote areas. Continuous monitoring of diarrhea, cholera, malaria, dengue and other water-borne and vector-borne diseases was stressed, with directions to provide immediate treatment wherever required.

Dr. Mahaling emphasized providing safe drinking water, sanitation and necessary healthcare to people staying in relief centers. He also asked officials to give special attention to pregnant women, children and the elderly.

 CDMOs and PHOs of various districts briefed the Minister on the flood situation, existing healthcare systems and steps already taken. The Minister appreciated the work of health workers and advised them to prioritize public health protection in coordination with district administrations and other departments.

According to department data, 367 people were treated for common diseases in rain-affected districts today. The cumulative number of patients treated stands at 9,025.

Today 12 snakebite cases were reported, taking the total to 58. 114 people are currently undergoing treatment for diarrhea-related illnesses. The meeting also reviewed the status of ongoing health welfare measures including services at Medical Colleges and Hospitals, Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY – Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, Odisha State Drug Corporation Limited, and programmes on Dengue, Tuberculosis and Maternal and Child Health.

The Minister directed all officers and health workers to remain alert and continue duties until the situation normalizes, stating that the state government is fully prepared for public health protection in flood-affected areas.

The review meeting was attended by Health and Family Welfare Department Secretary Ashwathi S., senior officers, and CDMOs & PHOs of flood-affected districts through video conferencing.
