Bhubaneswar: As New Year 2026 approaches, the Transport Department is taking proactive steps to prevent accidents at popular picnic spots.
In a bid to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for tourists, the department has issued a Special Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) prioritising the four ‘E’s: Enforcement, Engineering, Education, and Emergency.
According to the SOP, vehicles heading to picnics and pilgrimages must obtain permits from the Regional Transport Office (RTO). Strict checks will be conducted at major entry and exit points, with a focus on preventing drunk driving and overspeeding. The Motor Vehicle Act will be strictly enforced, and offenders will face action.
The Transport Department, in collaboration with the police, is working to ensure compliance with safety regulations. “The aim is to ensure people go to picnics happily and return safely,” said officials.
