Paris / Bhubaneswar: Er. Ashok Basa, past president of the Institution of Engineers (India) and an alumnus of Regional Engineering College (REC), presently National Institute of Technology (NIT), Rourkela, has been appointed as the Internal Auditor of World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) for the period 2025–2027. Appointment to the above honorary position has been made by the Executive Board (EB) of WFEO, in accordance with its Rules of Procedure.
In its communication conveying the appointment, the WFEO Executive Board observed that Er. Ashok Basa has been appointed as the Internal Auditor of World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) considering his experience, professionalism, and dedication to the engineering community which make him exceptionally well suited for the role. The term of appointment has commenced from 12 December 2025 and is renewable in accordance with WFEO statutes.
WFEO, incepted in 1968 at the behest of UNESCO, is the largest international professional body of engineers and engineering organizations, with membership spanning around one hundred countries across the globe. It plays a pivotal role in promoting engineering as a driver for sustainable development, good governance, and global cooperation.
Notably, Er. Ashok Basa is the first Indian to be appointed as Internal Auditor of WFEO since its inception in 1968. Earlier, he had successfully completed his tenure as Executive Vice President of WFEO (2022–2025), becoming the second Indian to be elected to this prestigious global leadership position. He also served as the Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) of WFEO during the periods 2022–2023 and 2023–2025.
As Internal Auditor, Er. Basa will be responsible for independent review and assessment of WFEO’s internal functions, including but not limited to financial processes, compliance mechanisms, and governance systems. He will also prepare reports for the Executive Board and support the Federation’s overarching commitment to transparency, accountability, and sound institutional governance, while participating as a non-voting member of the Executive Board and Executive Council.
The appointment is widely seen as a matter of pride for the Indian engineering fraternity and a recognition of Er. Basa’s sustained contributions to engineering leadership at the national and global levels.
