Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Bhabanipatana on Friday sentenced a former Data Entry Operator of the Narla Tahasil office in Kalahandi district to one year of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine after convicting him in a bribery case registered by the Odisha Vigilance.
The convict, Satya Narayan Choudhary, who had been disengaged from service, was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a physically disabled person. The money was allegedly sought for providing the beneficiary with the e-District ID and password issued in his favour under the SAHAJ E-Village Scheme.
According to the Odisha Vigilance, Choudhary had been charge-sheeted under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, following an investigation into the bribery allegation.
The court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhabanipatana, pronounced the conviction on Friday and awarded the sentence of one year’s simple imprisonment along with a fine.
