Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Keonjhar on Saturday sentenced retired Assistant Engineer Sivananda Pattanaik, former Junior Engineer Shaktiranjan Singhsamanta (both from ITDA, Champua), and private contractor Chaturbhuja Behera to four years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) each.
The trio was also fined for misappropriating government funds by executing substandard work on the “Construction of PCB over Mermeda Nalla” project in Champua Block, Keonjhar district.
An official press release revealed that Odisha Vigilance had filed charges against the accused under sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and sections 409, 468, 471, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Following their conviction, all three were sent to jail to serve their sentences.
Odisha Vigilance will now approach the competent authority to seek the dismissal of Shaktiranjan Singhsamanta from service and stoppage of Sivananda Pattanaik’s pension.
