Bhubaneswar: Ahead of the General Elections 2024, former MLA of Sambalpur Raseswari Panigrahi on Tuesday resigned from the primary membership of Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
She tendered her resignation letter to BJD president and Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
Hailing from Sambalpur, Raseswari is a gynaecologist by profession. She was elected first time to the Legislative Assembly in Odisha from Sambalpur seat on a BJD ticket by defeating senior BJP leader Jayanarayan Mishra in 2014 Assembly elections. However, she lost to her kin rival in 2019 elections.
Despite being one of the contenders for the party ticket for the upcoming Assembly elections, the party sidelined her. Instead, the ruling party fielded Rohit Pujari for Sambalpur Assembly seat and it disappointed Raseswari.
