Bhubaneswar: Special Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar on Tuesday sentenced former NREGA Assistant of Saharpada block in Keonjhar district Lalit Kumar Mohanta to 4 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) and a fine of Rs 2,000 after convicting him for taking a bribe to facilitate issue of work order in favour of the complainant for execution of the work under MGNREG Scheme.
In default of payment of fine Mohanta has to undergo further RI for 2 months more.
The court further sentenced Mohanta to undergo RI for 3 years and imposed a fine of Rs 2,000. In default of payment of fine Mohanta has to undergo further RI for 2 months more.
Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
Following Mohanta’s conviction he was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.
Mohanta was charge-sheeted by Odisha for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a complainant to facilitate the issue of a work order in favour of him for the execution of the work under the MGNREG Scheme.
