Bhubaneswar: A former senior surgery specialist at the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jharsuguda was sentenced to four years’ rigorous imprisonment by a Vigilance court on Monday after convicting him for accepting a bribe to perform a hydrocele operation.
Dr Debendranath Nayak, a retired Senior Surgery Specialist at DHH, Jharsuguda, was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Sambalpur, in the bribery case and also fined.
The Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Nayak under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant for conducting hydrocele surgery on his cousin.
Following his conviction, Nayak was sent to jail custody to serve his sentence.
The Vigilance department will move the competent authority for stoppage of his pension following the conviction.
