Nabarangpur: A former Zilla Parishad President from Nabarangpur district of Odisha is now contesting for the post of Sarpanch, but it is her unique election campaign that is drawing some attention.
As Odisha gears up for the three-tier Panchayat polls scheduled on February 16, former Nabarangpur Zilla Parishad President Bhagabati Bhatra is in the fray for the post of Sarpanch of Patri Panchayat under Papadahandi Block of the district.
Bhatra has been allotted ‘fish’ as her election symbol for contesting the panchayat polls. To draw the attention of the public as well as inform them about her party symbol, she is moving door to door with a live fish.
In the last Odisha Panchayat elections held in 2017, Bhatra was the Zilla Parishad candidate from Zone 3 of Papadahandi Block. She won the elections and was subsequently elected as the Zilla Parishad President.
After holding the post till date, she now decided to contest the polls for the post of Sarpanch. She aims to serve the people of Patri Panchayat and is hopeful of a big win.
