Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate of Police, probing into the case of fake doctor Ramesh Swain, arrested his sister Rashmita Beura today for her involvement in the frauds.
Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Dash informed that Rashmita was well aware of the frauds executed by Swain. She was identified by many victims of Swain. She used to confirm that her brother is a doctor and a Central Government employee.
The Commissionerate Police will seek remand of Rashmita to probe the involvement of her and her husband in the frauds. Meanwhile, her husband is absconding, added Dash.
The DCP informed that police had yesterday seized a car that was registered by using forged documents. Another case in this regard will be registered against Swain. So far, over 15 complaints have been received against Swain.
As the remand period of Swain is to end today, the Commissionerate Police is to seek further seven-day remand for further questioning and investigation into his financial transactions.
Today, a raid was conducted at the farmhouse of Swain in Khuntuni area of Cuttack district that has been registered in the name of his second wife. She has been asked to appear before the Commissionerate Police.
A team of Commissionerate Police is also conducting a search at Swain’s house in Kamakhyanagar of Dhenkanal district. Searches had been conducted yesterday at his native place in Iswarpur of Kendrapara district.
