Cuttack: Excise Department sleuths busted an illicit liquor factory at Kapaleswar area under Chaudwar police limits in Cuttack district and seized a large quantity of spurious liquor valued at approximately Rs 15 lakhs. The factory’s in-charge, Madhusudan Rout, has been arrested in connection with the case.
According to reports, the Excise Department received information about the factory, which was manufacturing fake liquor under the guise of authentic brands using fake labels and packaging. The department conducted a raid on the factory.
The Excise Department’s crackdown on the illicit liquor factory in Chaudwar’s Kapaleswar area has led to a bigger investigation, as the alleged mastermind behind the operation, Joy Subham, a youth from Bihar, remains at large.
According to sources, Subham had rented the premises and managed the illicit liquor factory. Despite the Excise Department’s successful raid and seizure of Rs 15 lakh worth of spurious liquor, Subham is yet to be apprehended.
The Excise Department has warned consumers to be cautious while purchasing liquor, as spurious liquor can be life-threatening.
