Cuttack: Family members of an under-trial prisoner staged a road blockade at Khuntuni in Cuttack district on Wednesday, alleging foul play in the death of Mohammed Tayab, an inmate of Adarsh Jail.
According to reports, Tayab, who was in custody for an ongoing legal case, complained of feeling unwell on Tuesday night. Prison authorities immediately rushed him to Athagarh Hospital, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
The cause of Tayab’s death remains undisclosed, sparking suspicion among his family members.
Hailing from Pankala village, Tayab’s relatives and supporters blocked the Khuntuni-Narsinghpur route, accusing the authorities of murder and demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Upon receiving information, Tigiria police arrived at the scene to pacify the agitators.
The family has called for transparency and justice, urging authorities to conduct a detailed inquiry into the incident.
