Jaleswar: Family members of a woman who was arrested on charges of peddling brown sugar snatched the key of the Excise Depaprtment team’s vehicle when the latter went to nab the accused in Odisha’s Balasore district on Monday morning.
According to reports, the Excise team seized brown sugar during a raid at the accused’s home.
Acting on a tip-off regarding a woman peddling brown sugar near Kamarda Bazar under Kamarda police limits, the Excise team had gone to seize brown sugar when locals created hindrances and prevented the Excise Department personnel from executing their duty. Anyway the team conducted the raid, seized brown sugar from the possession of the woman and arrested her.
Following the arrest, when the accused woman was being taken away by the Excise team, her family members snatched the keys of the Excise Department vehicle.
The family members of the accused woman have alleged that the substance seized by the Excise Department was not brown sugar but Multani Mitti. She was arrested on bogus charges, they alleged.
