Bhubaneswar: A farmer allegedly died by suicide on Saturday after consuming pesticide due to crop loss caused by unseasonal rain in Kendrapara district.
The deceased has been identified as Kailash Chandra Dhal, a resident of Koldhaia village under Aul police limits.
According to reports, Kailash had taken a loan of approximately Rs 1.5 lakh to cultivate paddy on 8 acres of land.
However, unseasonal rains destroyed all his crops, leaving him deeply worried. Family members claimed that he stopped eating and drinking for several days, distressed over the loss. Eventually, Kailash consumed pesticide.
His family rushed him to the hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. The tragedy has left his family in a state of shock and grief.
This marks the third such incident in Kendrapara district in recent days.
