Electrocution

Bhubaneswar: A 42-year-old man died of electrocution after coming in contact with a live wire allegedly laid for poaching wild animals in Ganjam district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred at Pratapagiri village under Patapur police station limits. The deceased was identified as Mehenkal Nayak, a resident of the same village. According to police, Nayak along with some others was going to his farm late at night to protect crops from wild animals, especially wild boars, when he got entangled in a live wire.

He was rushed to the nearby hospital at Adapada with severe injuries where doctors declared him dead. The body was handed over to family members after post-mortem at MKCG Medical College.Police seized electric wire, GI wire, bamboo and glass bottles used to lay the trap in the field.

“We have registered a case under different sections of BNS and launched a search to nab the accused who laid the live wire by illegal hooking from the power distribution line,” said Dipti Ranjan Behera, Inspector-in-Charge, Patapur police station.

This is the second electrocution death in the district within a week. On October 6, Santosh Kumar Swain (38) of Bhabarada village under Polasara police limits was electrocuted in a similar incident while going to his cow shed on the outskirts of the village. Police have arrested four persons in that case for laying live wire to kill wild boars.
