Farmers Who Suffered Crop Loss Due To Unseasonal Rain Can Claim Crop Insurance

Bhubaneswar: Thousands of farmers in Odisha have suffered crop losses due to the unseasonal rainfall in many coastal and interior districts during the last two days. In many cases the harvested crops have been damaged in their fields, while others faced crop losses as they were unable to move their harvests to safer places during and after the rain.

Farmers in Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Boudh, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Kendrapada, Keonjhar, Khurdha, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Nabrangpur, Nayagarh, Puri and Raygada have suffered the most.

Meanwhile, about 15 lakh farmers from these districts have been enrolled under the crop insurance scheme. The farmers who have insured their Kharif crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (Kharif -2024) are required to report loss of their harvested crops for claiming insurance compensation. Farmers can upload the information on crop loss using “Krishi Rakshak” App within 72 hours of the crop loss or intimate through the help line No 14447.

For information of farmers, it may be intimated that, post-harvest loss is covered under PMFBY – crop insurance scheme, if the crop loss has occurred in cut and spread condition or in small bundled condition within 14 days of harvest. The insurance compensation will be paid to the farmers after joint survey of the affected fields by the officials of implementing insurance companies and government officers. The compensation will be paid to insured farmers on the entire sum insured amount based on the loss.

Affected farmers of the above districts have been urged to report the loss using “Krishi Rakshak” App or through the help line No 14447.

For any assistance and help, farmers can contact the local agriculture officer – VAW, BAO, DAO, CDAO or the local Cooperative Officer – CEO, ARCS, and DRCS.
