Bhubaneswar: In a shocking incident, a married woman of Godi Sahi under Baranga police station, who suffered serious burn injuries after being set on fire by her father-in-law, succumbed while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Cuttack.
Her husband Dinabandhu Rout is also under treatment in the ICU at the same hospital in Cuttack.
The incident occurred on Saturday night when accused Govardhan Rout poured petrol on his son Dinabandhu and daughter-in-law Sasmita and set them ablaze.
The victims suffered severe burns, with the daughter-in-law sustaining burns on over 70% of her body. Both were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack from where they were taken to a private hospital for better treatment.
The woman succumbed to her injuries while husband Dinabandhu who suffered burns on over 50% of his body, remains in critical condition in the ICU.
Meanwhile, Police along with the scientific team detained the accused Govardhan Rout and are investigating the motive behind the heinous crime.
Though the exact reason behind the incident remains unclear, financial dispute in the family is suspected to be the cause of the crime.
