Cuttack: In a tragic incident, a man drowned at the Kaibarata Sahi ghat in Naraj area of Odisha’s Cuttack district while trying to rescue eight-year-old son from drowning on the occasion of Diwali on Sunday.
According to reports, the father and son duo had gone to the Kathajodi river to take bath when his eight-year-old son was swept away by the current of the water and drowned. Father Saroj went into the deep water to rescue his son but got stuck in quicksand. Soon, his son returned to the bank but Saroj drowned to death.
People present at the ghat rescued Saroj and rushed him to a nearby hospital but the doctors attending to him declared Saroj ‘brought dead’.
As the news of Saroj’s death spread, a pall of gloom descended on the Naraj village.
