Kendujhar: A father-son duo was arrested after police seized two country-made guns, a large quantity of live ammunition and equipment used for manufacturing firearms from their house in Odisha’s Kendujhar district, police said on Sunday.
The accused have been identified as Nanda Ho and his son, Chakra Ho, residents of Bargotha village under Kathakata Gram Panchayat.
Acting on a tip-off from a reliable source, a police team led by the Anandpur Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) raided Nanda Ho’s house under Anandpur police station limits and recovered the firearms, ammunition and gun-making equipment, police said.
Following the seizure, both the accused were arrested, and an investigation was launched to ascertain the source of the firearms and the purpose for which they were kept.
Police suspect that the father and son may have possessed the weapons for hunting wild animals, as their village is located close to the Hadagarh Elephant Sanctuary. However, the suspected motive is yet to be established through the investigation.
Meanwhile, following the directions of the Kendujhar Superintendent of Police, police have intensified awareness campaigns and checking operations across the district to curb illegal activities, officials said.
