Puri: In a gruesome incident, a 17-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her father and stepmother in Odisha’s Gop area of Puri district on Monday night. According to reports, the accused also burnt the body to conceal evidence.
The victim has been identified as Sonali Moharana. Acting on a complaint lodged by Sonali’s elder sister Ranjita Moharana, Gop police have detained the victim’s father and accused Durgacharan Moharana for interrogation.
According to reports, Durgacharan married Mamata Ojha in 2020 after the death of his first wife in 2018. It is alleged that his second wife and her brother Jeevan Ojha often tortured Sonali.
On learning about Sonali’s death, Ranjita reached the village and later lodged a complaint with the Gop police alleging that Durgacharan, Mamata, and Jeevan were involved in killing her younger sister.
She further alleged that the accused burnt the body at the village cremation ground late on Monday night and hid the ashes.
The Gop police have registered a case in this connection and are probing into the case.
