Kandhamal: In an instance of taking the law into their hands, a man and his brother beat one Nirupal Mahato to death for allegedly molesting a minor Dibyang girl in Shikwadi village under Raikia police limits in Odisha’s Khandamal district on Saturday.
The deceased has been identified as Nirupal Mahato, driver of a cement mixer-grinder machine from Jharkhand engaged in road construction work in the region.
According to reports, finding the minor Divyang girl alone in her house on Saturday, Nirupal allegedly entered the house and molested her, and took pictures of the victim. When her parents returned home, they found the girl crying inconsolably. On being asked why she was crying, the girl told her father Tarni Sen Pradhan about her woes.
Enraged over learning about the misery of her daughter, Tarni called his brother Krishna Chandra Pradhan and told him about the incident. Both brothers then reached the labour camp in the village and dragged Nirupal outside the camp and beat him to death on the spot.
Acting on a complaint lodged by other labourers of the camp at the Raikiya police station, the police summoned Tarni and Krishna Chandra and detained them for interrogation. Meanwhile, the police and a scientific team launched an investigation into the case and sent Nirupal’s body for post-mortem.
