Dhenkanal: An eight-year-old female elephant died today in the Pipala village under Jirala forest section of Bhuban Range in Dhenkanal district.

As per reports, the elephant had been ill for 10 days, wandering in the nearby forest.

The forest department took proactive measures to save the distressed elephant. On December 5, a team of officials tranquilized the elephant, allowing them to assess and treat the wound on its mouth.

Despite the forest officials’ best efforts, the elephant’s condition deteriorated over the past few days. The severity of the wound and potential complications might have contributed to its demise today.
