Bhubaneswar: A female elephant was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the Jankarbahali-Baduapali area under Sambalpur’s Sadar Forest Range, on Thursday.
According to sources, the female elephant fell unconscious while roaming in the forest. Though the exact cause of death is not known, it is suspected that the elephant might have died due to electrocution.
On a tip-off, Forest department officials have reached the spot to investigate.
When asked, Sambalpur DFO said, “An Assistant Conservator of Forest (ACF) is investigating the matter. The body of the elephant has been sent for post-mortem. The exact reason behind the pachyderm’s death can be ascertained after the post-mortem report comes.”
