Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday announced that the Hindi feature film ‘Godaan’ will be made tax-free across Odisha, underscoring the state government’s commitment to promoting cinema rooted in social values and cultural ethos. The announcement came after the Chief Minister watched the premiere of the film at his official residence in Bhubaneswar.
Addressing the media after the screening, Majhi said the decision to make Godaan tax-free was taken in view of its strong social message and cultural relevance. He described the film as a complete family entertainer that has the potential to bridge generational gaps by connecting children with their parents, while also reinforcing the core values of Sanatan Dharma.
Visibly moved after watching the film, the Chief Minister said Godaan left a deep emotional impact on him. He praised the film for its sensitive portrayal of social values, cultural traditions, and family ethics, noting that such meaningful cinema plays a vital role in creating social awareness and strengthening cultural understanding in society.
In another significant announcement, Majhi said that a Cow Research Center will be established in Odisha in the near future, reflecting the government’s focus on preserving and promoting traditional practices and indigenous knowledge systems.
Appealing especially to the younger generation, the Chief Minister urged people to watch Godaan with their families and to prioritise cultural and ethical values in everyday life.
The premiere, held ahead of the film’s scheduled release on February 6, was attended by Mines and Steel Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena, the film’s director and producer Vinod Kumar Chaudhary, several MLAs, and other distinguished guests.
