Jayapur (Koraput): A late-night fire at the Sri Bikram Government School of Art and Crafts here damaged computers, a television and several official files, triggering concern among the authorities.
The fire broke out at the government art school late Thursday night. Preliminary information suggested that a short circuit, possibly caused by rainwater seeping into an electrical board, may have triggered the blaze.
Two computers and a television were completely gutted in the fire, while several official files and other important materials were also reportedly destroyed, said college principal Yudhishthir Malik.
The incident came to light in the early hours of Friday when the night watchman noticed smoke emanating from the premises. He immediately alerted the principal, following which a fire services team was called to the spot.
Fire personnel reached the school and brought the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the premises.
The exact cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be ascertained.
