Balasore: A major fire broke out at the office of Chakapalasia Seva Samabaya Samiti at Bhograi in Balasore district in the wee hours reducing the valuables including office documents and computers to ashes.
According to reports, the functioning of the Seva Samabaya Samiti office was severely hit for the past few days due to a strike launched by its employees in support of their demands. They had downed the shutter of the office for that reason.
However, fire engulfed the office due to a short circuit last night. Chakapalasia Seva Samabaya Samiti President Shyamsundar Rout saw the fire and called the fire brigade officials.
By the time fire brigade officials reached the spot, the valuables including office documents, hard disks and computers were gutted in the fire.
Last year Balasore witnessed another fire mishap in which a compartment of a stationed goods train caught fire at Rupsa railway station in June 2023. However, prompt action by fire brigade personnel brought the fire under control, and helped avert any untoward incident.
