Cuttack: Fire broke out in a two-storey building in Sector-7 of Markatnagar in Cuttack late last night. Two persons sustained critical burn injuries and several vehicles were burnt.

The blaze occurred at the residence of Abhay Charan Jena in Markatnagar. Preliminary investigations suggested that the fire started in the garage on the ground floor due to a suspected short circuit.

The inferno gutted a car, three scooters, and two battery-powered bicycles parked in the garage. Two occupants of the second floor sustained injuries while trying to escape the flames.

They have been admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack. They are currently undergoing treatment

The exact reason of the fire remains unclear. A fire tender unit reached the scene and doused the flames.
