Fire Mishap At SCB: PM Modi Announces Rs 2 Lakh Ex-Gratia For Victims’ Families

Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in a fire mishap which broke out at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

PM Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.

“The mishap at a hospital in Cuttack, Odisha, is deeply painful. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000”, read PM Modi’s post.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday when a major fire broke out in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the trauma care centre at SCB at 2:30 am. At least 10 patients lost their lives, while several others suffered serious burn injuries in the blaze.

After meeting the injured patients at the hospital and reviewing the situation, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday announced an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh each for the family members of the deceased patients.
