Keonjhar: At a time when several parts of Odisha are facing incessant rains, the river, tributaries and water bodies are overflowing. This situation has affected communication.
However, efforts by rescue and relief teams have ensured that common people and essentially the vulnerable, do not face problems in movement.
A case in point is Odisha Fire Service personnel braving a flooded river to assist a pregnant woman reaching hospital. With the help of a rope, knotted to trees at each side of Samakoi river, the woman could safely cross the river.
The woman belonging to Munda Sahi in Talapada panchayat of Telkoi block was pregnant and was about to deliver. However, a flooded Samakoi river was a major hurdle for her to reach the hospital.
A team of Odisha Fire Service came to her rescue and made arrangements for the woman to cross the river. With the help of the rope, maintaining a balance amid strong water current, the brave OFS personnel carried the woman across the river.
The efforts by this team has been widely appreciated and locals have demanded for a bridge in Munda Sahi over Samakoi river. Meanwhile, the woman has been referred to Keonjhar district headquarters hospital.
