Bhubaneswar: In a heartbreaking incident amid the ongoing flood situation in Odisha, a fire service personnel died of electrocution while performing rescue and relief duties in Kendujhar district on Wednesday.
The deceased Chandan Pattnaik was part of a fire brigade team that had reached a waterlogged house near the Government Girls’ High School in Kendujhar town following reports of flooding. While the team was engaged in draining out the accumulated rainwater using pumps, the firefighter accidentally came in contact with a live electric wire from a clothesline near the house. He suffered a severe electric shock and collapsed on the spot. His colleagues immediately rushed him to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Upon being informed, CM Majhi expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate demise of the firefighter.
Taking to his X handle, CM Majhi wrote: “I am deeply heartbroken to learn of the untimely demise of firefighter Pattnaik in a most unfortunate accident while he was on duty. Along with conveying my profound condolences to the bereaved family members during this difficult time, I pray to Lord Shree Jagannath for the eternal peace of his departed soul.”
