Bhubaneswar: The first case of dengue death in the State this year was reported in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday raising questions about the role of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in preventing the outbreak and spread of the mosquito-borne viral disease.
Former Additional DCP Sudarshan Sethi succumbed to the disease during treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar yesterday. Besides, more cases of dengue were also reported from Niladri Vihar and Damana area of the city.
However, the denizens have alleged that BMC is showing a lackadaisical attitude. No fogging, bush cutting, or mosquito oil spraying is being carried out by the civic body.
Some newly-elected Corporators have alleged that though they had apprised the BMC authorities about the situation and had urged for taking necessary measures, the civic authorities are yet to take any action over the issue.
On the other hand, Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das said that steps are being taken to prevent the spread of the disease. People are being made aware to ensure that there is no stagnant water around their houses and other surrounding areas as the rainy days are approaching. Fogging, bush cutting and mosquito oil spraying is being carried out.
