Malkangiri: Fire Services personnel fished out the body of a fisherman from the Chitrakonda reservoir in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Thursday morning. The fisherman, Krupa Benia, had gone missing on Wednesday evening when a country boat carrying three fishermen capsized in the reservoir.
Two other fishermen accompanying Krupa Benia who managed to swim to safety are Hari Sagaria and Kailash Nayak.
According to reports, three persons from Dike-3 village under Nakamamudy panchayat were returning to Singaram by a country boat after fishing in the Chitrakonda reservoir. While returning they were caught in a gale and rain. Consequently, the boat lost its balance and capsized in the reservoir and the three fishermen drowned.
On their return, Hari Sagaria and Kailash Nayak informed the villagers about the incident and they immediately launched a rescue operation. Though they could not trace the whereabouts of Krupa, the rescue operation had to be abandoned due to darkness.
The rescue operation was resumed on Thursday morning. On being informed, a team of Fire Services personnel also joined them this morning. The Fire Services personnel fished out the body of Krupa from the reservoir this morning.
