Bhubaneswar: Rourkela Plant Site police arrested five alleged criminals early Friday for planning a robbery behind Congress Bhavan in Nayabazar.
Acting on a tip during night patrolling, a team led by Sub-Inspector Bibhuti Bhushan Khatei raided the area around 1 am. The five tried to flee on seeing the police but were caught.
Two swords, a machete, and two iron rods were seized from them. The arrested have been identified as Sonu Singh, 20, and Vicky Ahmed, 24, of Gandhi Road New Bus Stand area, Deepak Sandha, 29, of Railway Colony Jhumpadhi Basti, Sahid Khan, 19, of Rehmat City, and Krishna Das, 19, of Railway Colony Harijan Basti.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to planning to rob nearby shops and petrol pumps.
Police said Deepak Sandha has 27 cases registered against him, Sonu has 5 cases, Krishna has 2 cases, while Vicky and Sahid each have one case. All five were produced in court on Saturday.
