Bhubaneswar: In a tragic incident during the Ganesh immersion procession at Purushottampur in Ganjam district, five young children were severely burnt after a generator caught fire on Friday night.
The mishap occurred at Pratapapur while the immersion was underway.
As per reports, a generator placed on a tractor suddenly caught fire due to intense heat, which ignited a nearby petrol jar. Five children sitting close to the generator to watch the procession suffered serious burn injuries.
The injured children have been identified as Itishree Nayak (4), Suhani Nayak (11), Bhumi Nayak (8), Rahari Nayak (7) and Bikash Nayak (5), all residents of Sitarampur Agraharam Sahi.
They were first given primary treatment at the local Ayushman Arogya Mandir. As their condition was critical, they were shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Upon receiving information, the Purushottampur Tehsildar reached the hospital, monitored the treatment arrangements.
