Dhenkanal: Five members of a family, including two minors, sustained serious injuries after lightning struck their house during heavy rain in Kamakhyanagar town of Dhenkanal district on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred at Badabandha Sahi when the family members were sitting together inside their house amid heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity.
According to reports, there was a power outage in the area and the front door of the house was open when a lightning bolt struck, injuring those inside.
The injured have been identified as Saikrishna Sahu, Sneharani Sahu, Rintu Sahu, Bhagyashree Sahu and Classic Sahu. All five were rushed to the Kamakhyanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.
Local residents immediately came to the family’s aid and shifted the injured to the hospital. Their condition is being monitored by doctors.
The incident comes amid widespread thunderstorm and lightning activity reported in several parts of Odisha following heavy evening showers. Authorities have repeatedly advised people to remain indoors and avoid open areas during lightning events.
