Bhubaneswar: A court in Bhubaneswar has convicted five persons in connection with the murder of Sushant Nayak, sentencing them to life imprisonment.

The convicts are Vishal Nayak, Sujit Nayak, Ajit Nayak, Tikili Nayak, and Subash Nayak. The Additional District Judge Court, Bhubaneswar, also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on each convict, with an additional year of imprisonment in case of default of payment.

Sushant Nayak was brutally hacked to death in broad daylight on May 24, 2023, near Unit-III in Bhubaneswar.

The motive behind the murder was reportedly a dispute stemming from a molestation complaint filed by Sushant’s family members against Vishal Nayak, Sujit’s nephew. The accused had allegedly fled the scene after committing the crime but were later arrested by the police following extensive raids in multiple districts.

The court’s verdict brings closure to the family of the victim, who was working as a housekeeping staff at the Central Horticultural Experiment Station (CHES) in Aiginia, Bhubaneswar.
