Balasore: A flood-like situation has arisen in the Subarnarekha and Baitarani rivers in Odisha’s Balasore and Bhadrak districts due to heavy rainfall and water release from upstream barrages.

The Subarnarekha River’s water level at Rajghat has surpassed the danger mark of 10.36 meters, reaching 10.62 meters by 8 am, after the Galudih barrage in Jharkhand released 5,000 cusecs of water. This has resulted in flooding in several areas, including Choudhurikuda village in Balasore district, with Basta, Baliapala, and Bhograi areas also affected.

The district administration is closely monitoring the situation, with the Balasore District Collector instructing block development officers and tehsildars to remain prepared for evacuation operations if necessary. Relief teams have been mobilized to provide assistance to the worst-affected areas.

Similarly, in Bhadrak district, the Baitarani River’s water level has crossed the danger mark at Akhuapada, reaching 18.50 meters against the danger signal of 18.33 meters. Although the district administration hasn’t reported a severe flood situation yet, they have held a preparedness meeting and ordered police officers to be on alert.

The administration is taking precautionary measures, including ensuring the readiness of essential supplies and healthcare arrangements.
