Flood Like Situation In Odisha, 1.20 Lakh Affected

Bhubaneswar: As per preliminary information, 1.20 lakh people have been affected in 762 villages of 90 Blocks of 15 districts and 66 Wards of 17 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) by heavy rain and flood like situation, said an official press release issued by the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC).

Due to heavy rain and flood like situation, as many as 6834 persons have been evacuated and sheltered in safe buildings. They have been provided with dry food and free kitchen along with drinking water. A total of 136 nos of free kithen have been opened, the release added.

In the Mahanadi Basin, the discharge of water at Khairmal is 4.72 lakh cusec, at Barmul 7.86 lakh cusec and at Mundali 9.18 lakh cusec. It is observed that the discharge at Khairmal and Barmul is in a receding trend.

According to the release, at 5.00 PM, peak flood of 9.18 lakh cusecs was flowing in river Mahanadi at Delta Head Munduli. The water level is constant since 4 PM.

Due to the rise in water level in river Mahanadi at Naraj, flood-like situation is likely to occur in low lying areas of Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur. The District Administrations of these districts are closely monitoring the situation, the release added.

Baitarani at Akhuapada is fast receding. The water level Baitarani is 19.44 meter against 17.83 & flowing in a falling trend. The water level at Anandpur is also falling. The District Administrations of Bhadrak & Jajpur are closely monitoring the situation.

The Water level of river Brahmani at Jenapur is constant at 22.20 m against Danger Level 23.00 m. since 4PM.

The water level of Jalaka river at Mathani, Balasore is flowing above danger level in a falling trend.
